SMEs Responsible for 110 Million Tonnes of Carbon Emissions Each Year

Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) generate approximately 110 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year, according to new calculations published today by AXA. In an effort to help small businesses reduce their environmental impact AXA, one of the UK’s leading insurers of SMEs, today launched a carbon footprint calculator available free at www.axa4business.co.uk/climate

One in five UK employees still pressured to retire by their employers

A study by leading insurer AXA has today revealed that, despite the introduction of age discrimination legislation in 2006, ageism is still rife in today’s workplace, with thousands of retirees reporting experiencing pressure to quit their job by their employers. In addition, UK plc could face a collective compensation bill of over £45m* if employers are taken to tribunal for age-related cases.

AXA advises directors to review health and safety

AXA is advising directors to review their company’s health and safety procedures in preparation of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act, which takes effect from April 6, 2008. Failure by senior management to ensure compliance with health and safety law may leave the company open to being charged under the new offence, should a work related death occur.
